In the German city of Ulm, we have realized a pilot installation of a public transport priority. Our RSU is connected a traffic light controller by Cross. The RSU not only receives the requests from vehicles, but also provides signal plan.
We have also installed two OBU units: one is on a bus, the other one on a tram. Both are connected to a board computer using the IBIS bus. This way the units receive information about the current trip of the vehicle: the current line number, stop, destination etc. Such information is used to correctly construct the R09 telegram sent in a CAM message. In addition, the information is used to select the correct “Meldepunkt” (login point).
In addition, the unit on a bus collects data about origin/destination of the passengers, using Wi-Fi monitoring. Of course, all data is anonymized.
